In Ukraine’s temporarily occupied territories, Russians are flooding the labor market with migrant workers – a study
Russia is altering the demographic composition of Ukraine’s occupied territories by displacing the local
population and replacing it with groups loyal to the Russian authorities. This is part of
a long-term colonization policy that proceeds in parallel with the negotiation
processes and complicates any future settlement.
This is evidenced by a study by “Realnaya Gazeta,” which they presented at the Ukraine Media Center.
“Russia uses state programs to recruit specialists from within the federation itself, such as ‘rural teachers’ and ‘rural doctors.’
It also imports labor, including foreign workers,” said Olena Fetisova, news editor-in-chief and researcher.
Doctors, teachers, and coaches are also traveling from Russia to the occupied territories, attracted by contracts worth 2 million rubles and free housing.
The occupying country has fully imposed its colonial realities on the occupied territories. It was precisely with the arrival of migrant workers that the concept of “raids on migrant workers” emerged in the Luhansk region.
