In temporarily occupied Crimea, citizens are jailed for 15 days for social media posts featuring the Ukrainian trident – Human rights defender
russian occupiers in Crimea have declared Ukraine’s State Emblem, the trident (tryzub), an extremist symbol and are punishing citizens for displaying it, including in social media posts or on clothing.
This was reported by Iryna Siedova, a researcher with the Crimean Human Rights Group, during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.
“They (the occupiers – ed.) are going even further by officially recognizing the trident as an extremist symbol in their court rulings. People are being jailed for 15 days just for posting the trident on social media or wearing a T-shirt with the emblem. Such cases are documented. This is part of russia’s broader strategic goal of persecuting Ukrainians,” she said.
