Illegal border crossings: SBGSU names areas with most apprehensions
Attempts to cross the border illegally are recorded both on the green sections of the border and directly at checkpoints. Most of the green section violators were detained on the border with Moldova and Romania. At the same time, the largest number of attempts to illegally cross the border directly through the checkpoints is recorded on the border with Poland.
This was reported by Andrii Demchenko, spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.
“Most of the violators were detained on the border with Moldova and Romania. Although significantly less, we also have detentions on the border with Hungary and Slovakia. The least number of detentions is on the border with Poland. This refers to the green sections of the border, i.e. outside the checkpoints. However, the Polish border is characterized by the fact that due to the high passenger traffic there, we have the most attempts to cross the border illegally at the checkpoints, when people try to use forged documents or hide in the structure features of vehicles, or try to bribe inspectors of the State Border Guard Service,” Andriy Demchenko said.
He also noted that in August, compared to July, there was a decrease in attempts to cross the border illegally.
“Unfortunately, such incidents are a daily reality for border guards, our border patrols, and units that detain violators trying to cross the border illegally. If we compare August to July, we see some downward trend. But before that, there was an upward trend. So, on average, these incidents are not going up a lot, but unfortunately, they are not going down a lot either. Border guards detain such violators practically every day,” Demchenko added.
