Human rights advocates call for better communication between state agencies and families of missing persons
According to Olena Bieliachkova, Coordinator for Groups of Families of Prisoners of War at Media Initiative for Human Rights, greater transparency from families could prompt a more responsive approach from government entities.
Bieliachkova made these remarks during a discussion at the Media Center Ukraine.
She stressed that the willingness of families to engage openly should encourage state bodies to reciprocate with better communication. “The Coordination Center for Missing Persons was established to facilitate dialogue between authorities and the families of both military personnel and civilians. However, it appears there is a communication breakdown. Families are exhausted from attending meetings and hearing repetitive information. We need to develop strategies that will help families understand the ongoing processes and maintain their hope,” Olena Bieliachkova asserted.
