Hepatitis A outbreak in Kyiv: Expert explains transmission routes and health impact

Hepatitis A is transmitted via the fecal-oral route through dirty hands, poorly processed food, or contaminated water.

Nataliia Hunchenko, deputy director general of the Kyiv Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, announced this during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.

“The fecal-oral transmission mechanism involves dirty hands, poorly processed food, or contaminated water. The infection enters through the mouth and affects the liver,” she explained.

Although hepatitis A impacts the liver, it is considered the least dangerous type of viral hepatitis. As the expert noted, treatment is only symptomatic, and there is no specific therapy.

“However, Hepatitis A poses the least risk among various types of viral hepatitis. Treatment is symptomatic, and there is no specific therapy,” Hunchenko emphasized.
