Former Naftogaz chief warns Ukraine may rely on imports for over 70% of gas needs this winter

Ukraine could face an unusually high dependence on imported natural gas this winter, with imports potentially exceeding 70%, former Naftogaz CEO Andriy Kobolyev, now an advisor to Beiken Energy Ukraine, warned at the Kyiv Security Forum.

“I am concerned that gas imports may exceed 70% this winter,” said Kobolyev. “We need close cooperation with the European Union to ensure maximum gas supplies through pipelines from Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, and Romania. It’s essential to establish a framework that guarantees suppliers’ confidence in future payments.”
