For the first time in Ukraine’s history of seeking NATO membership, the declaration clearly states the country’s irreversible and unconditional path to the Alliance – Maria Mezentseva
For the first time since Ukraine has started seeking NATO membership, the final declaration of the NATO summit indicated Ukraine’s irreversible and unconditional accession to the Alliance.
Maria Mezentseva, Deputy Head of the Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into the EU, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine.
“As for the text of the joint declaration, for the first time in the history of our accession to NATO, the statement clearly reads not half membership, not potential membership, not future membership but Ukraine’s irreversible, unconditional membership in NATO. Perhaps someone interprets this as diplomatic expressions, but this very sentence appeared in the text because of work done by the President of Ukraine, his entire team, all diplomats, the parliamentarians and all NGOs involved in the security and defense sector, both in Ukraine and abroad,” Maria Mezentseva noted.
