Fires in Ukraine increase by 45% – State Emergency Service
Since the beginning of the year, there have been more than 34,000 fires in Ukraine. Overall, the number of fires has increased by 45% this year, largely due to a rise in fires within ecosystems.
Oleksandr Khorunzhyy, Press Officer of the State Emergency Service, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
“Within five months since the beginning of the year, a total of over 34,000 fires have occurred resulting in 680 deaths and 705 injuries. The overall number of fires has increased by about 45%, primarily due to a rise in fires within ecosystems,” said Oleksandr Khorunzhyy.
According to the Press Officer of the State Emergency Service, compared to last year, the number of fires in ecosystems increased by 2.4 times. A total of 15,000 fires were recorded in ecosystems on a total area of more than 12,000 hectares.
The main causes of fires include violations of fire safety rules, burning of dry vegetation, bonfires. In addition, the number of fires in ecosystems increased as a result of russian shelling.
