Families of missing Ukrainians call on released POWs to report details about fellow captives

Families of missing Ukrainian soldiers are calling on those recently released from captivity to provide information about others who were held with them.

The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War has introduced a tool known as the “Account of the Returned from Captivity,” which has already proven highly effective. Officials say released soldiers must report details about their captivity, as this helps provide vital information to their families.

Olena Belyachkova, Coordinator for Families of POWs and Missing Persons Groups at the Media Initiative for Human Rights, emphasized the system’s importance at Media Center Ukraine.

“In this account, a released soldier can submit details about who was with them and authorize that information to be shared with relatives searching for their loved ones. This allows waiting families to learn about the status of their defenders. It is essential for the Coordination Headquarters to conduct a broad information campaign on this initiative,” Belyachkova said.
