State Emergency Service units demine over 1,400 km² of territory and dispose of more than half a million explosive objects
As of today, preliminary estimates from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and the National Mine Action Authority indicate that 24% of Ukraine’s territory is potentially dangerous and requires further survey and demining. So far, specialists from the State Emergency Service have successfully demined 1,400 km².
Serhii Reva, Head of the Department for Organizational Work on Humanitarian Demining at the Ukraine’s State Emergency Service, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine.
“Together with all the Defense Forces and mine action operators, we are doing our best every day to secure and reduce the threat to our population from explosive ordnance. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, more than 1,400 square kilometers of territory have already been demined by units of the State Emergency Service alone. More than half a million explosive objects have been disposed of. This work is ongoing every day. Our teams, comprising over 1,000 personnel, conduct more than 200 operations daily to detect, neutralize, and search for explosive ordnance. This ensures the safety of the population, allowing them to return to their lands, resume activities, and carry out sowing and harvesting,” he noted.
He also emphasized that Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Kherson regions remain the most heavily contaminated with explosive devices, while Mykolaiv region is slightly less affected.
