Expert: russia to intensify information warfare, political influence in 2025

In 2025, russia is expected to ramp up its information warfare and efforts to sway international institutions, as well as influence the formation of new coalitions and political players around Ukraine.

This assessment was shared by political analyst Ihar Tyshkevich during a discussion at Media Center Ukraine.

According to Tyshkevich, moscow is seeking a foreign policy triumph that it can present as a major victory on the global stage.

“For russia, withdrawing from the war in Ukraine isn’t an option—not through a ceasefire, nor a simple peace agreement. russia needs—and I’ll stress again that putin is not lying when he calls this a war for russia’s future, for its survival as an empire—a narrative of foreign policy success,” Tyshkevich explained. “This means securing political concessions, whether from NATO or the European Union, outside of Ukraine itself. Of course, there’s also the so-called picture of victory on the battlefield in Ukraine, which russian propaganda can theoretically paint.”

He underscored that to achieve this, moscow is intensifying its propaganda offensives, disinformation campaigns, and manipulative narratives aimed at shifting public opinion and influencing decision-making in Western nations

“This is why manipulative information campaigns and political interference will only expand,” Ihar Tyshkevich added. “And 2025 is already shaping up to be an even more aggressive year, with intensified efforts to exert political influence on both established institutions and the evolving landscape of new coalitions and key players surrounding Ukraine.”
