Expert: ATACMS will increase Ukraine’s capabilities to hit targets in temporarily occupied territories

The MGM-140 ATACMS missiles will allow for more effective striking of targets in the occupied parts of Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, and Kherson regions, and possibly in Crimea. They will be used instead of Storm Shadow or SkyPG, which are limited due to airspace. This opinion was expressed by Oleksandr Kovalenko, military and political observer of the Information Resistance group, at a briefing at the Ukraine-Odesa Media Center.

“Su-24, the frontline bombers that carry Storm Shadow and SkyPG, do not have a full-fledged functionality because they are tied to airfields. And MGM-140 ATACMS are tied only to roads. A land launcher is more effective than an air launcher in such matters. Some media outlets are now reporting that Ukraine will receive missiles with cluster warheads,” Kovalenko said.
