Expanding multicomponent vaccines and updated regimens: Changes to the National Immunization Schedule in 2026

Significant updates to Ukraine’s National Immunization Schedule are set to take effect in 2026, with a focus on expanding the use of multicomponent vaccines and revising immunization protocols for various diseases.

Ihor Kuzin, Deputy Minister of Health and Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine detailed the planned changes during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine.

“We are planning to significantly expand the use of multicomponent vaccines, which combine multiple antigens in a single injection,” Kuzin stated. “This approach aims to streamline the vaccination process, reduce the number of visits required, and lessen the number of injections for children receiving immunizations.”

Kuzin further explained that the updated schedule will include revised vaccination regimens for tuberculosis, hepatitis B, measles, mumps, and rubella. Additionally, adjustments are proposed for immunizations under special conditions, such as for individuals with compromised immune systems or specific health conditions.

Another notable change coming in 2026 is the introduction of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination for girls aged 12–13, along with BCG vaccination for newborns within 24 hours of birth.

The Ministry of Health has introduced these updates as part of its ongoing efforts to align the National Immunization Schedule with international recommendations. The draft order, titled “On Amendments to the Preventive Immunization Schedule in Ukraine,” is currently open for public discussion. The proposed changes are informed by the recommendations of the National Technical Group of Experts on Immunization (Position No. 19-11/2024-1).
