Europe increase power imports for Ukraine

Europe has expanded the volume of electricity available for import to Ukraine to as much as 2.3 gigawatts. However, the cost has climbed sharply, according to Oleksandr Kharchenko, director of the Energy Industry Research Center, speaking at the Media Center Ukraine.

Kharchenko noted that the increased capacity could prove crucial during periods of intense strikes on Ukraine’s power grid. “Ukraine can now increase its electricity imports to as much as 2.3 gigawatts, which could help during periods of heavy shelling,” he said. He warned, however, that prices in Europe remain steep. “Peak rates reach 270 euros per megawatt hour, compared with 90, 80, 70 euros. So imported electricity will not be cheap,” he added
