Despite cold snap, no power restrictions expected – Yuriy Boyko
The recent sharp drop in temperatures and challenging weather conditions across Ukraine have placed considerable pressure on the national power grid. Nonetheless, the energy system remains stable, with no restrictions imposed on consumers.
Yuriy Boyko, Advisor to the Prime Minister of Ukraine and a member of the Supervisory Board of the PrJSC NPC Ukrenergo, addressed the issue during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.
“A sharp drop in temperature and the current weather conditions have significantly increased the load on the power system. However, the existing infrastructure and its condition enable our power engineers to maintain control of the situation. So far, there have been no announcements of restrictions or blackouts,” Boyko stated.
He acknowledged the ongoing shortage of energy resources, particularly during evening hours, but noted that Ukrenergo is actively importing electricity to offset the deficit and preserve system stability.
“By utilizing all available domestic resources and relying on active imports during the evening peak, Ukrenergo dispatchers are successfully balancing the power system to prevent potential restrictions. It is quite clear that we are currently facing an evening deficit—this is the objective reality we live in. However, this shortfall is being actively covered by imports, allowing us to maintain the system’s full stability,” he added.
