Denys Marchuk: The enemy sees economic benefits in attacking Ukraine’s port infrastructure
The enemy’s shelling of Ukraine’s port infrastructure, among other things, is an economic benefit that the aggressor country sees for itself.
This opinion was expressed by Denys Marchuk, Deputy Head of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council, at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.
“I see two goals (in the enemy’s attacks on port infrastructure – ed.). The first, of course, is a military goal, which is to create economic difficulties for Ukraine, because they understand that exports bring in foreign currency, which supports the Armed Forces of Ukraine. But at the same time, as a country that is itself a major exporter of grain, they also understand that if there are difficulties with exports from Ukraine, it will lead to a rise in production. And they, as exporters, will make more money from it. If trade doesn’t export from Ukraine, it will look for alternatives elsewhere, which will lead to more demand for their products, and they will compete on price. So this is the economic gain that the aggressor expects from attacking Ukraine’s port infrastructure,” Denys Marchuk said.
