Denys Marchuk: Kherson region hit hard by drought, farmers’ losses could top one billion hryvnias

Southern Ukraine, including Kherson Oblast, is facing one of the most severe droughts in decades. Early estimates suggest agricultural losses could exceed one billion hryvnias.

Denys Marchuk, deputy chairman of the Ukrainian Agri Council, shared this assessment during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine.

“The southern region of Ukraine, particularly Kherson, is suffering from drought. The losses are enormous. Farmers say they haven’t seen damage on this scale from drought in the past 10 to 15 years,” Marchuk stated.

He described the situation in Kherson as critical.

“Preliminary estimates indicate that more than 55,000 hectares have been lost in the Kherson region. In monetary terms, that amounts to over one billion hryvnias in losses for producers in this area, as well as in the neighboring Mykolaiv region,” he added.
