“Crime must be punished and integrity rewarded”: Business Ombudsman highlighted key steps for the state to support businesses
In fostering business integrity, it is crucial for the state to reward compliance with the law and intensify efforts against violators.
Roman Vashchuk, Ukraine’s Business Ombudsman, emphasized this stance during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.
“This is a matter for state authorities. Government bodies should reward law-abiding businesses and target those who flout the rules, not seek out minor infractions by compliant businesses just to impose fines. This is especially true when these businesses are willing to cooperate and report transparently. Both businesses and the state are responsible. I believe firms participating in today’s competition would want their competitors to improve their practices as well,” he stressed.
Vashchuk also underscored the need for clear signals from the government.
“However, proper guidance from state authorities is equally essential. In this regard, we can look to the newly appointed Prosecutor General, who worked in the tax service until recently and thus understands business issues and how regulation affects them. He should send the right signals: that crime will be punished and integrity will be rewarded,” the Business Ombudsman noted.зазначив бізнес-омбудсмен.
