Countries in the Black Sea region need unmanned naval capabilities as an alternative to traditional fleets — Deputy Director of the Center for Defense Strategies
During the Third Security Conference in Chisinau, Alina Frolova, Deputy Director of the Center for Defense Strategies, emphasized the importance of coordination among Black Sea states to restore security and normal functioning in the region.
“Today, we are able to maintain control over the Black Sea thanks to the efforts of the Ukrainian Defense Forces and the participation of partners from Black Sea countries,” she emphasized.
The Deputy Head of the Center for Defense Strategies also noted that it is now strategically important to move toward developing a plan that will, in the long term, deprive Russia of the ability to maintain a military fleet that it uses for aggression and despotic actions in the region.
In addition, Alina Frolova highlighted the potential for developing unmanned naval capabilities in the region’s countries: this is a cheaper and more effective alternative to a conventional fleet, allowing for a balance of power and countering Russian aggression.
According to her, the region’s stability depends on joint efforts in the areas of armaments, finance, and coordination among countries, as well as on the support of the European Union and partners. She emphasized that the ability of Black Sea states to defend themselves and the region is a key element of security.
