Corn plantings to increase this year, soybeans to decrease
Ukrainian farmers are increasing corn plantings this year while reducing soybean acreage.
This was announced by Taras Vysotskyi, First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.
“This year, we see a clear trend toward increased planting of corn as a grain crop and decreased planting of soybeans as an oilseed crop. Last year showed that the profitability per hectare of corn is higher than that of soybeans. Corn prices have risen and remain attractively high. In contrast, global soybean production has been high, leading to lower prices,” he noted.
According to Vysotskyi, corn acreage could increase by 10-15%, while soybean acreage could decline by about the same margin.
