Conscripts who saw combat or were captured must have equal rights and guarantees as other military personnel – Human rights advocates

The social rights and guarantees for conscripts who participated in combat, went missing, or were captured, as well as for their families, are lesser than those for other categories of military personnel. While this group is small, it exists. Currently, at least 35 National Guard conscripts are missing in action or have been captured.

Olena Belyachkova, coordinator for families of POWs and missing persons groups at the Media Initiative for Human Rights, stated this during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.

“For example, conscripts who return from captivity and undergo reintegration procedures in medical institutions are discharged from service. When their pension is determined, a different amount of expenses is calculated for them because they have a different level of monetary support,” she said.

According to Belyachkova, Cabinet of Ministers Resolution 18-24, which regulates additional payments for young men of this age who sign a contract with the military, does not address the issue of conscripts.
