Commissioner for Protection of State Language issues 276 resolutions on administrative offenses in 2022-2024

The Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language issued 276 resolutions on administrative offenses during 2022-2024. In particular, 18 – in 2022, 128 – in 2023 and 130 – in 2024.

Taras Kremin, Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine.

“In comparison with 2022 and 2023, the statistics for the first six months of 2024 are radically different, which demonstrates our institutional capacity, we have learned to apply the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses, we know how to prevent some violations that could potentially be repeated, and we actively cooperate with each business entity. On the one hand, we help to understand the law, to comply with it. In certain situations, of course, we punish those who continue to violate the language law, even in wartime, when there is a sentiment against the use of a non-state language. We act in accordance with the norms of the Code of Administrative Offenses and the norms of the present time, relying exclusively on the rights and demands of every citizen of Ukraine,” he said.

As reported, the Law of Ukraine “On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as a State Language” was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on April 25, 2019. The law entered into force on July 16, 2019 — two months after its publication. Previously, the status of the Ukrainian language was regulated by the Law of Ukraine “On the Principles of State Language Policy.”
