Can lawyers protect themselves? The Media Center Ukraine hosted the second meeting of the Center for Civil Liberties’ Human Rights Club
This time, lawyers, human rights activists, and civil society representatives gathered to discuss the alarming trend of increasing pressure on lawyers, interference in their professional activities, and even their persecution in Ukraine. The European Court of Human Rights has already documented systemic flaws in safeguards for lawyers’ work in multiple rulings, highlighting institutional vulnerabilities.
Participants discussed why the current legislation fails to provide adequate protection for lawyers and why the legal community remains vulnerable to pressure and interference. They also identified priority steps that the state and legal community must take to ensure practical safeguards for lawyers.
We remain committed to hosting such discussions and providing a platform for the professional human rights community to gather, discuss pressing challenges, and find ways to address them.
