Blackout Scenarios: Positive — 3 Days, Negative — 7–10 Days to Restore Power Consumption — Oleksandr Kharchenko
In case of a blackout, an uncontrolled exclusion of certain regions from the power grid occurs, we have two scenarios of the possible timing of restoration of power consumption. Oleksandr Kharchenko, Director at the Energy Industry Research Center, made this statement during the briefing in the Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
“There is such a problem – no one in the world has ever conducted such an experiment. No one in the world has thrown a system the size of the Ukrainian one into blackout and no one tried to raise it — there are no such examples. Moreover, the energy system of any country in the world has never experienced such massive missile attacks. This is a unique Ukrainian experience. But from the point of basic calculations, procedures and regulations of how events will occur in the event of a blackout, the positive scenario will be three days, the negative — seven to ten days to restore the system and restore full consumption in the system,” Oleksandr Kharchenko explained.
