At the end of the past year, more than 3,000 fires happened in Ukraine. As a result, more than 200 citizens died, including seven children.
Anatolii Shkarbuta, Deputy Head of the Prevention Unit of the Fire Safety Office of the Emergencies Prevention Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
“Only at the end of 2023, there were more than three thousand fires in the state, which resulted in more than 200 fatalities, including seven children,” he noted.
At the same time, the representative of the State Emergency Service noted that more than 179 people were rescued.
According to Anatolii Shkarbuta, most fires and deaths from carbon monoxide happened in Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, Kharkiv, and Kyiv regions.
According to the representative of the State Emergency Service, the primary causes of fires, particularly during the heating season, stem from safety rule violations in the operation of electrical equipment, electrical appliances, and electric heaters. Additionally, breaches in safety rules while using stoves and other equipment contribute to the incidents.
