Around 300,000 Kyiv residents suffer from mental health disorders, a Reform of Social Services in Ukraine expert says

Roughly 300,000 people in Kyiv are living with mental health disorders of varying severity, according to Andrii Kovalov, head of the “Reform of Social Services in Ukraine” project, expert partner at Civitta Ukraine on Healthcare and Social Policy. 

Speaking at the Media Center Ukraine, Kovalyov said preliminary estimates suggest that one in ten residents of the capital experiences some form of psychological disorder. Kyiv’s population is about three million.

“If we take Kyiv, with a population of about three million people, the estimates show that one in ten has a mental disorder of some degree, that’s around 300,000 people,” Kovalyov said. “When it comes to severe cases, the number ranges between 30,000 and 50,000 residents of the capital.”
