All in person | Mine action training for those affected by explosive ordnance: goal and prospects of the project Topics of focus: – What is the purpose of the mine action training project for those affected by explosive ordnance? – Is there a demand from the state for such projects? – Who participated in the first program and how were they selected? – Can veterans of the russo-Ukrainian war participate? – Are people affected by explosive ordnance interested in learning mine action? – What skills will the graduates of the mine action program receive? – Do mine action operators support such a training program? – What are the chances of continuing and scaling up the mine action training program for those affected by explosive ordnance? Why this is interesting: Ukraine is currently the most heavily mined country in the last 80 years. Since the beginning of the large-scale invasion, nearly 35,000 km² of land has been cleared and returned to use. However, over 139,000 km² of Ukrainian territory remains contaminated with mines and unexploded ordnance. Both government and private mine action operators are actively working to clear these areas, employing both traditional and innovative methods. Drones and cartographic data are being used to detect mines, cluster munitions, and other explosive remnants of war. This project aims to expand employment opportunities for people with disabilities while also advancing humanitarian demining efforts in Ukraine through the use of innovative technologies. The involvement of highly qualified specialists is crucial to the success of these initiatives. |
