Almost UAH 550 million (approx 13.5 million euro) will be spent on school shelters in Odesa region by September 1, 2023
The funds were allocated by the government, local authorities and international donors. This was stated by Oleksandr Lonchak, director of the department of education and science of Odesa military administration, at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Odesa.
“The concept of a safe school has been adopted, and by September 1 we plan to create safety classes in every educational institution, as well as continue to create and reconstruct shelters. The state subvention for the region for the construction of shelters is UAH 101 million (approx 2.5 million euro), and a total of UAH 547 million (approx 13.5 million euro) is planned to be spent. UNICEF has also allocated UAH 25 million (approx 370 thousand euro) separately for the construction of shelters in five schools,” – the official said.
He also added that eight educational centers are planned to be opened in the region on the basis of educational institutions to bridge “educational gaps”.
