Almost half of farmland cleared of mines in liberated areas since start of year – Taras Vysotskyi

Since the start of 2024, Ukraine has surveyed and demined 229,000 hectares of agricultural land, according to Taras Vysotskyi, First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, who spoke at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.

“Since the beginning of the year, 229,000 hectares have been cleared of mines. This covers a substantial area,” Vysotskyi stated.

He noted that approximately 512,000 hectares of farmland in newly liberated territories still require urgent surveying and mine removal.

“We’re progressing well, with almost 230,000 hectares cleared so far, nearing half of the required area within a year and a half. This is notable, as the de-occupation of Kharkiv and Kherson regions only began last summer. If we continue at this rate, full demining could be completed within two to three years—a remarkable pace given the scale of the task,” Vysotskyi said.
