After being released from illegal imprisonment, you have no one to turn to for help – former prisoner

After returning from illegal imprisonment, the state and public organizations provide the most urgent assistance, ranging from basic necessities to document restoration. But sometimes state bodies duplicate each other’s functions.

Yuriy Shapovalov, who was released from illegal imprisonment and is a representative of the NGO “December 29,” spoke about this at the Ukraine Media Center.

“Right away at the hospital, we communicated with representatives of various state institutions. During such visits, there was a noticeable lack of coordination in their work, and their functions often overlapped. But in all this, there was often no one to whom we could turn with our problems. Very often, doctors performed this function,” he said.

Yuriy Shapovalov noted that after three weeks of intensive treatment, people were dispersed to different institutions and the assistance stopped.

“Along with me in the Russian colony were people who had been illegally imprisoned for 8-10 years. These are truly the Kremlin’s captives, who were detained in the occupied territories for helping Ukraine. I believe that when they return, the law will work as it should,” Yuriy Shapovalov added.
