According to the UN, More Than 2.5 Million Ukrainians Were Deported to Russia, But We Do Not Know the True Figure — ZMINA Human Rights Center
According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the number of people who end up on the territory of the russian federation exceeds 2.5 million. Aliona Luniova, Advocacy Manager at ZMINA Human Rights Center, told this during the briefing in Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.
“Since February 24, 2022, we have started to receive alarming signals about deportation – about exportation of Ukrainian citizens to the territory of the republic of belarus and the russian federation. Now the figures speak about the scope. According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the number of people who end up on the territory of the russian federation exceeds 2.5 million. We do not know the true figure, because this is information obtained from rf. We can not fully rely on it, but there is no other one,” Aliona Luniova said.
The Advocacy Manager noted that it is not yet known how many of the millions of deported Ukrainians do not have documents certifying their identity and belonging to Ukrainian nationality, but such appeals are received.
“If a person does not have documents, he or she is actually held hostage, because he or she cannot leave the territory of the russian federation — and, therefore, has numerous problems already on the spot,” Aliona Luniova added.
