About 75% of child athletes worldwide have experienced violence: Ministry of Youth and Sports launches campaign to protect children
On International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine launched a national awareness campaign titled “Sport Without Violence.” Serhiy Tymofeyev, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, announced this during a briefing at the Ukraine Media Center.
International studies show that about 75% of children and adolescents have encountered some form of violence in sports facilities.
“Over 10,000 respondents participated in the survey. 75% of those surveyed under the age of 18 have encountered at least one form of violence. 65% have faced physical violence, and 35% have experienced sexual violence. “We are raising the issue of preventing violence in the facilities where our children train,” said the deputy minister.
The campaign has several components. The first phase involves an informational campaign aimed at educating parents, children, and coaches about child safety policies and how to respond in various unpredictable situations.
