A referendum cannot be held at this time – analysts from the CHESNO Movement
A referendum cannot be held at this time because there is no guarantee that people will be familiar with all the terms of the question being put to a referendum. For a referendum to be considered legitimate and valid, voter turnout must exceed 50%. The last elections showed a turnout of just over 36%.
This was stated by Iryna Korzhenkova, a parliamentary analyst for the CHESNO Movement, during a briefing at the Ukraine Media Center.
“It is obvious that the issue of a peace agreement was planned to be put to a referendum. This is what politicians are talking about now. The referendum question as such should not be on the agenda at all. And it is technically impossible to hold elections and a referendum on the same day,” said Iryna Korzhenkova.
