A guidebook has been presented in Ukraine to help engage young people in shaping youth policy

Today, February 13, the Media Center Ukraine hosted a presentation of the guidebook “How to engage children and young people with life experience in making decisions that affect them.”

The guide was created in tandem by young people and experts who have long been involved in this topic.

Kirilo Nevdokha, head of the Children and Youth Office “DiyMO” at the Ministry of Social Policy, Family, and Unity of Ukraine, noted that the guidebook is a response to the requirements of the European Union, as the participation of children and young people should be key in shaping public policy.

“We have reached a level where the voice of young people is becoming more audible. Currently, there are very few young people in Ukraine. Therefore, policy must now be based on involving young people in its formation. In this manual, we would like to focus on the experiences of children and young people living in residential care institutions, orphans, and those who have experienced violence,” said Kirilo Nevdokha.

The authors have added a video guide to the manual, which provides a better understanding of how to work with young people, including sign language. The publication also provides an opportunity to learn about tools for monitoring decisions and checklists.
