80-85% of fuel price in Ukraine tied to foreign currency – market analyst says

Foreign currency accounts for as much as 80-85% of the fuel cost in Ukraine, with exchange rate fluctuations playing a key role in price formation, according to Serhii Kuiun, a leading fuel market expert.

Speaking at a briefing hosted by Media Center Ukraine, Kuiun broke down the fuel pricing structure: “Half of the fuel price comes from the purchase cost. Another 35 to 40% is made up of taxes, including excise duties and VAT. Since the excise is set in euros, roughly 80 to 85% of the total cost has a foreign currency component. That means every one-hryvnia rise in the exchange rate adds about 80 kopiikas to the price at the pump,” he said.

Kuiun also pointed to the situation in the Middle East, which has significantly impacted global fuel markets and contributed to rising prices.
