
73 people rescued and 711 munitions destroyed: SESU reports on the active work of rescue dogs during the war
Search and rescue in rubble and demining operations remain key tasks for State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) canine units. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, canine units have been deployed 812 times for these critical operations, resulting in 73 lives saved.
This was reported by Oleksandr Khorunzhyi, press officer for the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.
“If we take the statistics from the beginning of the war, which covers the years 2022-2025, our canine specialists were involved 812 times in the performance of assigned tasks. Of these, 377 missions were for searching for people in destroyed buildings and natural environments, and 435 were for searching for explosive objects. In terms of completed work, 73 people were rescued during search and rescue operations, and 711 munitions were neutralized with the help of dogs specially trained to detect mines,” he reported.
