3rd Separate Assault Brigade UGV Operator School: How civilians and military personnel can join
Launched by the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade in March 2025, the UGV Operator School is a pioneering initiative in Ukraine.
One of the main reasons for establishing the school was the lack of similar training programs in Ukraine that would train both civilians and military personnel. After all, many civilians may soon join the military, so it would be better if they already had relevant knowledge. Viktor “Stark” Pavlov, founder of the UGV Operator School and Platoon Commander of Unmanned Ground Robotic Systems with the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade, explained this during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.
“The UGV School’s primary function is to compile all combat knowledge, skills, and experience in this field and pass them on to civilian and military personnel. However, civilians receive limited training to avoid disclosing military secrets,” he said.
Pavlov emphasized that UGV (unmanned ground vehicles) is still an unfamiliar term for many. Therefore, another key mission of the school is to promote this field and increase the number of trained specialists. “You can’t win a war with just one unit. That’s why the 3rd Assault Brigade is ready to share its knowledge with others.”
The training program consists of courses in engineering support, logistics, and combat platforms. The school offers a basic 5-day course geared toward civilians and an 11-day course for military personnel.
