2022 sees a 100-fold increase in classes, schools, and learners adopting the Ukrainian language
When compared to previous years, 2022 saw a 100-time increase in the number of classes, schools, and students who switched to the Ukrainian language. Since 2022, these figures have increased fivefold.
Taras Kremin, Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
“When comparing 2022 to the years before, the number of classes, schools and students who have switched to the Ukrainian language has surged by over 100 times. In terms of the ongoing trend from 2022 to the present day, the number of those who are still continuing to switch to the Ukrainian language and, accordingly, those, who gave up other languages in their educational process, has increased fivefold,” Taras Kremin said.
According to him, before the full-scale invasion, 455,000 schoolchildren received education in a non-state language. In 2022, following the beginning of the full-scale invasion, there were 4,000 such students.
“Now we have 768 students who entered (schools – Ed.) earlier, and the education was provided in a non-state language, but these statistics are constantly changing. I think that, say, on September 1 of the new school year, it will show considerable improvement,” added Taras Kremin.
