20% of Ukraine’s territory is mined

It is currently impossible to clear all mined areas due to the occupation and proximity to the front line. Serhiy Reva, director of the Department of Mine Action at the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, made this statement at the Ukraine Media Center.

“In Ukraine, 133,300 square kilometers are potentially contaminated, including the temporarily occupied territories. This is about 20% of the country’s total territory,” he noted. 

The State Emergency Service is also tasked with clearing waterways of mines. Currently, the service is waiting for the end of hostilities to begin full-scale demining operations.
