105 Ukrainian rescuers killed since start of full-scale war, Emergency Services say
Since the onset of Russia’s all-out invasion, 105 Ukrainian rescuers have been killed and more than 500 others wounded, according to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
Speaking at a briefing at Media Center Ukraine, SESU spokesperson Oleksandr Khorunzhyi underscored the dangers emergency personnel face on the front lines.
“Our country is fighting a full-scale war against a ruthless and unprincipled aggressor who targets rescuers who are often unarmed,” Khorunzhyi said. “Today, we face a grim reality: 105 of our colleagues have been killed, and 502 have been injured.”
He emphasized that despite strict safety protocols, rescue missions remain inherently dangerous.
“Of course, we rely on aerial reconnaissance and disperse personnel, especially during air raid alerts,” he said. “But in wartime, there is no absolute protection. We are in the business of saving lives, and that always carries risks.”
