Restoration of the Road Fund in the budget for 2025: Serhii Marchenko explained why it’s necessary

The draft State Budget for 2025 provides for the allocation of funds to the Road Fund. This initiative is important due to the need to maintain road infrastructure and manage debt payments.

This was stated by the Minister of Finance of Ukraine, Serhii Marchenko, during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.

“If we look at the consequences of the underfunding of the Road Fund this year, we see that the road infrastructure needs were mostly financed through the Reserve Fund. I think this was not an ideal solution. It would be more appropriate to allocate these resources to a separate fund, as has been done in the past, in order to be able to pay off debts (mostly debts incurred in previous years) and to maintain the road infrastructure. Because this situation was quite risky for us and created constant budgetary pressure. In addition, there are demands and requests from certain regions for road maintenance, especially in areas close to combat zones where roads are constantly damaged by shelling and need repair. Therefore, we believe that a systematic approach can lead to a more efficient allocation of these funds,” explained Serhii Marchenko.
